History

Three Generations of Dentistry

Our inspiration is President Dr. Cheddi B Jagan, who earned his DDS degree in 1942 from Northwestern University College of Dentistry. He founded Cheddi Jagan Dental Surgery in Georgetown, Guyana in 1948 and practiced dentistry while pursuing politics. His son, Dr. Cheddi Jagan Jr, earned his DDS degree in 1978 from Howard University College of Dentistry. He purchased his father’s practice in 1993 and opened his NY branch in 2016. The dental tradition continued with Dr. Avasa Jagan, who has worked as an Associate Dentist at her father’s branches and continues to work at the Guyana branch on a locum tenens basis.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Avasa Jagan, Owner

Dr. Jagan graduated with a BA in Chemistry from Brooklyn College CUNY, followed by her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Howard University in 2018. After completing her General Practice Residency at Interfaith Medical Center in 2019, she marked a major milestone in 2023 by opening Jagan Dental—a proud minority- and women-owned practice. Licensed in both New York and Guyana, Dr. Jagan is Invisalign certified and dedicated to providing gentle, high-quality care. Outside the office, she enjoys baking, dancing, and traveling with her husband, with recent highlights including trips to The Bahamas and Northern Italy!

Diane, Office Manager

With 25 years in the dental industry—including 15 years in administration—Diane brings a wealth of experience to Jagan Dental. Having worked at this practice for 3 years prior to Dr. Jagan’s ownership, she offers valuable continuity and familiarity to our patients. Born and raised in Brooklyn with deep roots in Puerto Rico, bilingual (English and Spanish) Diane is a cherished part of our team!

Val, Dental Assistant

Val is a bilingual (English and Spanish) registered dental assistant who earned her certificate from the NY School of Medical and Dental Assistants in 2022. Following her training, she gained valuable experience during her externship at community health centers in Queens. Originally from Ecuador and raised in the Bronx, Val has called Queens home for the past decade. We are thrilled to have her on our team!
